GoZ is a plugin designed and formatted by Pixologic. The GoZ plugin provided with DAZ Studio 4.5 Pro enables you to take a model out of DAZ Studio 4.5 Pro. The GoZ plugin then enables ZBrush to open the file and bring it into ZBrush. The plugin architecture does not create a direct bridge between DAZ Studio 4.5 and ZBrush. It is recommended that you use the GoZ plugin in Studio 4.5 and not in the older 4.0.
Here are some things to check to help you trouble-shoot and use the plugin.
HELPFUL TIP: It's better to install the latest version of ZBrush rather than to update it as you can have problems with the update. Also, if you update or install ZBrush you *must* uninstall and re-install the GoZ plugin or it will not work.
Installation and Activation
As with all plugins in DAZ Studio, the correct version of the plugin must be installed and activated. By default, since the GoZ plugin is a feature of the Pro Edition of DAZ Studio, if you have DAZ Studio 4 activated as the Pro Edition, then you will also have GoZ activated as long as you have the correct version of the GoZ plugin installed.
So, check the status of the GoZ plugin in Studio. Go to HELP --> About installed plugins. Is the plugin listed? If the plugin is listed, is it designated as activated?
The correct version of the GoZ plugin is provided with the downloads for DAZ Studio 4 Pro. If you do not have access to these, either reset your existing order for DAZ Studio 4.5 or put through an order for DAZ Studio 4.5. At the time of this article, DAZ Studio 4.5 Pro was available here: http://www.daz3d.com/shop/daz-studio-4-pro.
To activate DAZ Studio 4.5, go to HELP --> Register DAZ Studio 4. Input a valid Pro serial number and submit. To check the activation of DAZ Studio 4.5, go to HELP (or DAZStudio on the Mac) --> About DAZ Studio. The word 'Pro' should be shown after the full build of DAZ Studio. At the time this article was written, the current release build was 4.5.0.114.
Refresh Studio Interface
To do this easily, go to Window --> Workspace --> Select Layout. You can choose the same layout you are using and then click 'Accept' below.
Lost Path
If you update ZBrush, the path for the GoZ plugin will be lost. To resolve this, re-install the GoZ plugin. You can obtain this through Install Manager or 'Product Library' in your DAZ 3D Account. This is very important.
HELPFUL TIP: It's better to install the latest version of ZBrush rather than to update it as you can have problems with the update. Also, if you update or install ZBrush you *must* uninstall and re-install the GoZ plugin or it will not work.
GoZ README
-
Select an object in the scene; you must have an item that has geometry selected to continue.
-
Select the Send to ZBrush... action.
-
Use File > Send to ZBrush… or click the Z icon in the toolbar (left side of City Limits layout)
-
-
Choose whether or not to “Export with deformations” in the Export Option dialog.
-
Checking this option will export the selected object with the current pose/shapes applied, allowing you to sculpt on the posed/morphed shape - which will later be reversed when the sculpt is sent back to DAZ Studio. ZBrush will launch; you may be prompted to grant permission if UAC is enabled
-
-
Once in ZBrush, use the new tool (it should already be active in the Tool palette) to place the object in the viewport.
-
Select Edit Object (T) to enter the mode that allows you to begin sculpting the mesh.
-
Be careful to avoid changing the resolution of the mesh; morphs must maintain both vertex count and order.
-
-
Sculpt your morph.
-
When finished, click the GoZ (Ctrl+G) button in the Tool palette to send the sculpted object back to DAZ Studio.
-
The first time you do this you will be walked through setting up the ZBrush side of the bridge. You may need to manually locate the DAZ Studio 4 executable.
-
-
Choose the appropriate options and fill in the the appropriate fields, in the Update Options dialog.
-
Building a morph, you'll want to uncheck the Update UVs and Update Materials options.
-
If you are not presented with a dialog, make sure that the Edit > Preferences... > Interface >Bridges > GoZ (ZBrush) option is set to Show Options.
-
-
Find your shape in the Parameters (WIP) and/or Shaping (WIP) panes.
-
Name and location will be as specified in the Update Options dialog.
