Daz Studio can read most Poser files as well, so it's important to realize that you often need to install two files for a product if you intend to use it in Daz Studio. There are two ways to tell.
Available Downloads Page
On the 'Available Downloads' page, you can see 'DS' or some other indication of DAZ Studio on the entry of the download that means it is ONLY for use in Daz Studio. On much rarer occasion, you'll see PS or Poser meaning it is ONLY for use in Poser.
Installer Name
The other way is to look at the name of the installer. There are three kinds with regard to this matter: product installers that end in 'DS'/'ds,' product installers that end in 'PS'/'ps,' and product installers that end in neither.
For Daz Studio only files, there will be a DS or ds at the end of the product code. Do not confuse this with the letters at the beginning of the product code and installer name. For example, look at the name of these installers for the PC and the Mac for V4.2 Morphs++:
- ps_pe070_V4MorphsDS.exe
- ps_pe070_V4MorphsDS.sit
The 'DS' at the end of the name (before the extension) means that this file is ONLY for use in DAZ Studio. On rarer occasion, some files will have 'PS' or 'ps' at the end of the name. This means that file is ONLY for use in Poser. Do not confuse the 'ps' at the end of the file name with the 'ps' at the beginning of a file name. Almost all content products for which the product code begins with ps_ can be used in both Poser and Studio. But for purposes of this explanation, we only care about the ps or ds that comes at the end.
General Installers
Now, of course, there are the installers that have neither a 'ds' nor a 'ps.' These install Poser-style content that is to be used in both Poser and Daz Studio. These installers are unspecified. Here are some examples of some unspecified installers:
- ps_pe069_Victoria4.exe
- ps_pe070_V4Morphs.exe
- ps_pe073_Aiko4.sit
Summary
- Installer name does not end in 'ds,' 'DS,' 'ps,' or 'PS.' Use in both Poser and Daz Studio
- Installer name ends in 'DS' or 'ds' Use ONLY in DAZ Studio
- Installer name ends in 'PS' or 'ps' Use ONLY in Poser
So, the unspecified installer needs to be installed all the time, regardless of whether you're using Poser or Daz Studio. The specified installer (DS/PS) is only installed if you're using that application.
